Building and Energy

All of VinUniversity’s building and energy decisions play a crucial role in reducing our carbon footprint. Sustainable buildings and efficient energy practices form the foundation of our commitment to reducing energy consumption and promoting clean, renewable energy sources.

  • Energy-efficient infrastructure: Retrofit existing buildings with advanced energy-efficient systems, including smart lighting, HVAC systems, and insulation technologies.
  • Renewable energy integration: Expand solar panel installations, and explore other renewable energy sources to reduce dependency on non-renewable power.
  • Sustainable building standards: Ensure that new construction projects meet international green building certifications, such as LEED, and incorporate sustainable design element
  • Campus-wide energy audits: Regularly assess energy consumption across all buildings to identify areas for optimization and implement improvements to reduce overall energy usage.

Programs

The solar energy system at VinUniversity is installed over an area of approximately 1,000m² on the rooftop, providing an average of 600 kWh per day. With a total output of 150,000 kWh in 2023-2024, this solar panel system helps VinUniversity reduce reliance on the grid, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and save about 330 million VND in annual electricity costs.

VinUniversity has installed an automated Building Management System to control the air conditioning and lighting systems throughout the campus, allowing for remote programming of operation times for each area. The system will monitor the temperature in real-time and automatically turn off equipment when not in use, helping to optimize energy use, significantly reduce electricity waste from unnecessary operation, save on labor costs, and improve overall management efficiency.

VinUniversity allocates 84% of its campus to landscaping and greenery, featuring over 2,000 ancient and shade trees. The low-building density design with special learning spaces make creates a Green University where students learn in harmonious natural surroundings anytime and anywhere.

VinUni features over 3,000m² of internal and rooftop gardens across the library, lecture halls, dormitories, and administration tower, plus a magnificent 10,000m² rose garden with over ten varieties beautifying the campus.
