Recycling and Waste
Recycling and Waste
Guided by our Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Policy, which encompasses Waste Management and Responsible Consumption principles, VinUniversity takes a proactive, campus-wide approach to minimizing waste at its source, diverting materials from landfills, and fostering a culture of responsible consumption among students, faculty, and staff. From eliminating single-use plastics to transitioning to a fully digital campus communication system, our waste reduction efforts are embedded in daily operations and continuously tracked as part of our broader commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
Programs

VinUniversity’s sustainability team, in partnership with the Ecoquity – VinUni Sustainability Club, has launched a campus-wide recycling initiative featuring dedicated waste sorting stations, behavioral awareness campaigns, and workshops on responsible consumption and waste separation. Campus waste generation and recycling rates are tracked systematically, with awareness programs successfully reducing waste production and diverting substantial plastic from landfills through ongoing community engagement. These efforts reflect VinUni’s commitment to building a campus culture where responsible waste management is a shared, everyday practice.

VinUniversity has partnered with on-campus food and beverage vendors to eliminate plastic bags and carriers, reduce single-use items, and incentivize the use of reusable containers across all dining areas. Complementing this effort, 34 free water fountain stations installed across campus have prevented 1,499,629 plastic bottles (400ml) from entering the waste stream since 2019, with 490,422 bottles saved in the academic year 2024–2025 alone. Together, these initiatives drive measurable reductions in campus plastic waste while promoting sustainable consumption habits as part of daily campus life.

Every Wednesday, VinUniversity invites students, faculty, and staff to participate in the Green Wednesday initiative — a weekly campaign encouraging the community to adopt eco-friendly habits such as reducing plastic use, conserving energy, minimizing waste, and greening personal spaces. By making sustainability a consistent, visible part of campus life rather than a one-off event, Green Wednesday builds lasting behavioral change and reinforces VinUni’s campus-wide culture of environmental responsibility in support of our Net Zero 2050 goals.
